Minecraft Dungeons 2 Weapon Tier List — Every Class Ranked

All revealed weapon classes ranked by attribute profile, role coverage, and how they exploit the sequel's new systems.

By the D2G Team · Updated Sep 28, 2026 · Status: pre-launch profile — DPS-tested rankings land launch day
Quick Answer

The battlestaff is the early S-tier pick — it's the only weapon family with two officially promoted build paths (Lightning Surge mage, Soul Blast), and mid-range flexibility that fits the sequel's 12-slot system. Hammers and the bow family sit in A for players who know their role.

Honesty note: this is a pre-launch tier list built from official attribute profiles (Power / Speed / Range) and system knowledge. Full damage-tested rankings replace it as we play — a weapon's feel often beats its stat sheet, and random effects can shift everything.

S Tier

S Battlestaff weapon icon
Battlestaff
Weighted ends for striking fear — and enemies. The only weapon with two officially named build paths: Lightning Surge for a conductive mage build, Soul Blast "if you'd rather just hit things." Mid-range engagement means it dodges the melee-range danger zone without bow-level charge discipline. In a 12-slot system, its flexibility is worth more than raw stats. Full playstyles in builds 1 and 2.

A Tier

A War Hammer weapon icon
War Hammer
"Tremors through the earth and your enemies' hearts." Heavy, slow, fight-reshaping — and the family has a built-in speed dial: one-handed Battle Hammer trades power for speed, Mob Mallet turns fights into whack-a-mob. A-tier because its ceiling is party-defining, but fast bosses expose the windup. If you play co-op, this climbs to S in practice — see Build 3.
A Powerbow weapon icon
Powerbow family (Shortbow / Longbow / Trickbow)
Charged shots "pack a mean punch"; uncharged are a "forceful slap." What lifts the whole family: projectile weapons now have unlimited, recharging ammo, removing the arrow rationing that capped ranged builds in Dungeons I. The trickbow is the sleeper pick — ricocheting arrows while rolling and jumping synergizes with the sequel's new movement.

B Tier

B Sword weapon icon
Sword
"A sharp blade and the grit to swing it." The dependable default — no weakness, no gimmick, no reason to pick it over a battlestaff unless the fantasy calls you. B not because it's bad, but because every other class does something it can't.
B Greatsword weapon icon
Greatsword
Two-handed sweeping heavy slashes — trades speed for sweep. The question at launch: does its sweep out-clear hammer tremors? On paper no, which is why it sits under the hammer. Random effects could flip this; we're watching drops.
B Double Daggers weapon icon
Double Daggers
"Keep your stride light and your hands busy." Fast, stylish, high input per damage — the classic skill-expression pick. B until a random effect or enchantment build makes the attack speed pay for itself.

How We're Ranking

Three inputs go into each placement:

  1. Official attribute profiles — Power / Speed / Range as shown in the weapon reveals
  2. System synergy — how the weapon exploits 12 slots, talismans, unlimited ammo, and jumping
  3. Role coverage — does it handle crowds, bosses, and co-op situations, or only one?

What would move a weapon up or down at launch: measured damage-per-second, enchantment interactions, and how random effects roll on each family. Rankings update as data comes in — check back after your first session.
